Read Aloud Virginia held their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Brandermill Country Club on Thursday, April 23, 2009. The day begun with a shotgun start at 1pm. 18 holes of golf were followed by a dinner, awards ceremony and silent auction. Those in attendance could not have asked for a more beautiful day to enjoy the 18 hole golf course designed by Gary Player. An estimated 40 people came out to support Read Aloud Virginia. 8 teams competed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 1st place winners were Cliff Lewis, Gerry Puzon, Theresa Lewis and Kyle Gravitt with a score of 62. 2nd place winners Bill Jennings, Lance Pitman, Tom Chamberlin and Davis Phaup came in with a score of 62 also and 3rd place went to Stanley Ford, Steve Fletcher, Chris Johnson and Steve McNamee with a score of 64. Prizes were awarded for other contests also. Read Aloud Virginia develops a love for reading, strengthens families, and prepares children with language and literacy skills necessary to become successful adults. Read Aloud Virginia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational literacy organization founded in 1998 by Gary Anderson, a school psychologist in Hanover County. The organization’s mission is promoting healthy, successful children through reading aloud, and it is committed to encouraging parents, teachers, caregivers, and other adults to assume responsibility for children’s literacy by reading to them for 20 minutes a day.
