Art for Autism benefitting The Faison School for Autism was held on Friday, April 17, 2009 at The Faison School for Autism. The weather was perfect as guests arrived at the front of the The Faison School and were then escorted down to the party tents to browse silent auction items, enjoy various food stations and view the wonderful artwork by Faison School students and various artists. Preceeding the Art for Autism Gala a cocktail reception honoring internationally know painter Wolf Kahn was held. Upon entering the Gala guests were able to view and bid on the silent auction items that included a trip to Philadelphia, Golf packages at various Virginia golf courses and original watercolors. Food tables were set-up througout the tent with a wide range of food stations offering beef, crab cakes, cheeses and much more! As the silent auction tables closed at varying times, the live auction then began with welcoming remarks by Alan Kirschner, Chairman of Markel. Mark Motley, auctioneer of the evening started the "Appetizer Auction" with the first item up for bid a private dinner for 10 at Little Venice. Volunteer of the Year was presented to Philip W. Klaus, Jr., member of the Board of Directors of The Faison School for Autism. Presentations were made by Peter deGroot, President of The Faison School Board and by Chris and Kristen Bullard, parents of a Faison School student. The Faison School for Autism/ACV is dedicated to giving each child the best chance he or she has to improve their life’s journey. The School employs a three-pronged approach of empirically-driven treatment, research, and training to best serve their students. Their philosophy is a holistic one, focusing on the child, their family, and all those who touch and enrich their lives.
