The Richmond Academy of Medicine's & The Richmond Academy of Medicine Alliance's in support of Access Now held Casino Night on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Country Club of Virginia. The Country Club of Virginia made for an elegant setting for this black-tie optional affair. Guests were greeted upon their entrance by the hosts for the evening Dr. Thomas L. Moffatt Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Access Now and his wife Sharon, Susan Winiecki Associate Publisher and Editor in Chief of Richmond Magazine and Dr. Johnny C.L. Wong, President of the Richmond Academy of Medicine Board of Trustees and of the Pulmonary Associates of Richmond and his wife Elizabeth Wong. As those in attendance browsed the silent auction items and dined on the beautifully arranged food buffets, introductions were made and gaming rules read, by Dr. Thomas L. Moffatt and Susan Winiecki. Susan Winiecki then went on to discuss that in 2008 the value of the care donated by physicians through Access Now was $1,060,000 to the community! After the introductions and gaming rules were read, guests proceeded to the Roulette and blackjack tables with the silent auction ending at 10:00pm. The evening culminated with the auction winners being announced at 10:30pm. Access Now thanks to the generosity of 800 Richmond physicians who are specialists, is able to provide highly complex care to uninsured patients who are referred to Access Now that they are not able to receive at area free clinics. The care is provided in physicians' offices and at hospitals throughout our region. There are no tax benefits or credits for the physicians.
