The Visual Arts Center of Richmond held their 23rd Annual Collectors Night on Friday, March 27, 2009. The rain did not stop the guests from attending the event held at the newly designed Visual Arts Center. As guests arrived they were greeted with the live music of the River City Band and an array of appetizers donated by many of the great restaurants and caterers in Richmond. Contributing Artists mingled among the crowd, while beautiful artwork adorned the walls. Those in attendance were in awe of the artists and their talents. Silent auction items were on display in one of the many workrooms at the Visual Arts Center. Some of the items up for grabs were tickets to a Washington Redskins game, pottery and jewelry. As the silent auction closed guests were escorted into an elegant tent where they dined on "southern comfort" food family style. A sit down dinner began with Jane Brooke receiving the 2009 Distingushed Service Award. The live auction kicked off with the "Pick of the Night: Best of the Live Auction". Those bidding on this item had the chance to choose their favorite live auction item before someone else outbid them. The auction item winner of the night was "A Week in the South of France", which included a three-story stone house that accomodates nine. As the event came to a close guests were delighted to finish up with velvet cupcakes! The Visual Arts Center of Richmond engages the community in the creative process through the visual arts. They believe there is a creative spirit in all of us that nourishes our humanity and enriches our society. They foster a creative culture that encourages people of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels to explore, participate and experiment in the visual arts. Affiliate support for the Visual Arts Center of Richmond is provided by investors in the ArtsFund, grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the Arts and Cultural Funding Consortium and the National Endowment for the Arts.
