Richmond Pro Cycling and The Faison School for Autism held a joint fundraising event on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Corrugated Box Building. The evening was a collaborated effort between the two non-profits to raise awareness for both The Faison School for Autism and The Richmond Pro Cycling Team. The event was a first time for both non-profits. The location, the Corrugated Box Building in the Old Manchester district of Richmond served as a wonderful back drop for the evenings events. Guests arrived and were greeted with a life size mannequin of a cyclist with a bicycle. Upstairs the silent auction had an array of items that ranged from beautifully designed art work by Faison School children to Richmond Pro Cycling merchandise. Raffle tickets were available for a grand prize drawing of an official Richmond Pro Cycling Team bag stuffed with a team jacket, t-shirt, sweatshirt, cycling cap, official team jersey (only available to athletes), Richmond Pro Cycling Blend Coffee and a fully supported breakfast ride for four with Richmond Pro Cycling. Sarah Swope of The Faison School made welcoming remarks and thanked those in attendance on behalf of the families of The Faison School. She talked about the excitment The Faison School felt partnering up with Richmond Pro Cycling and how the School was looking forward to continuing their partnership, "with such a passionate group of people at RPC". The Faison School will be introducing stationary bikes, that will be located in the gym and used as a recreational activity for the children. The School's goal will be to have tandem bikes for the children by 2011 to ride with the Richmond Pro Cycling Team. Craig Dodson, Founder and Director of Richmond Pro Cycling followed with thank you's and introductions of the 2009 Cycling Team. Dodson concluded with how important the support of the Richmond community is to the survival of the Team and to continuing his mission to developing the organization's members on and off the bike. The Faison School is dedicated to providing services for individuals with autism, their families and the professional community. The mission of The Faison School for Autism is to give each child the best chance he or she has to improve his or her life's journey. Richmond Pro Cycling is a 501 C-3 non-profit organization focused on the enhancement of its athletes' social responsibility and focused on the enhancement of other socially-driven 501 C-3 non-profits. Richmond Pro Cycling is set out to break new ground in both professional cycling team models and social out reach non-profits.
